Follow Up with the 2022 Lilly Scholar
January 5, 2022
Carter Tague recently was awarded the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship by the Lilly Foundation and Rush County Community Foundation. This is a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to pursue baccalaureate degrees at colleges or universities in the state of Indiana. The scholarship also includes up to $900 annually for required textbooks and equipment.
Tague mentioned that the first thing that went through his mind when he walked through the doors was that “there is no way that this is going to happen to me”, and “I recognized everything that was going on the second I walked in and I could not believe what was actually happening.”
When asked how he felt being named the Lilly Scholar, Tague stated that “it is a dream come true”. He mentioned that there was an incredible list of applicants, and “it was unfathomable that [he] was selected”.
Tague’s advice for those thinking about applying for the Lilly is: “Do not choose to leave anything out of the application when applying for it. Everything that you know qualifies for the category it asks for is important. Even if you think it won’t make a difference on the application, include it anyways because you never know. That one small community activity, extracurricular activity, or even getting honor roll during the school year could be the one thing that sets you apart from other applicants.” He then went on to thank the RCS Administration, his family, friends, and community for shaping him into the person he is today. Finally, he thanked the Lilly Foundation for the amazing opportunity.
Tague plans to attend Ball State University to major in either Strategic Communication, Public Relations, or Sports Administration.
Congratulations Carter Tague on being named a 2022 Lilly Scholar!
