Track Season Starting Up

Shepard Cupp, Author

The RCHS Track Team started official practice on Friday, February 19th. The first few practices have gone very well. Coach Marlatt says, “We’ve had good numbers, especially for the boys. The weather has been nice, which makes Track go a lot more smoothly. And we’ve got a lot of people who are excited to start the season. I’m pleased so far.”

Coach Marlatt is hoping to win the Conference and Sectional meets and move as many people into Regionals’ as possible. Among other goals, he states, “We want to see improvement from everybody across the board. We want to see people achieve their personal records on a consistent basis. And we want to work hard, have fun, and win Track meets.”

Coach Marlatt thinks that the boys’ team is looking strong. He says, “The boys have potential to be conference and sectional champions and move a lot of people on to the regional level. I think the boys have talent in the long distance events, short distance events, jumps, and throws. I think the boys have a chance to be a very complete team.”

The girls’ team is in need of members to join. Coach Marlatt says, “We have pieces for the girls that have a lot of talent and potential, but we just need to get some more girls out there to fill some of the holes that are lacking in numbers right now.”

If you or anyone you know is interested in joining Track, contact Coach Marlatt. Practices are after school every day from 3:45 to 5:30.
