“I Pledge Allegiance…..

Megan Bradley, Author

Here at RCHS students are asked to stand and prepare for the pledge of allegiance every morning at 8:10 am. Some students refuse to stand for the pledge, others simply stand, and some don’t place their right hand over their heart.

In my opinion, this is completely disrespectful to the flag and the country it stands for. Section 4 of the Flag Code states that a person must stand at attention with their right hand over their heart and recite the official words of the pledge. The flag not only stands for the United States, but it stands for the men and women who fight for our country. They fight for the freedom of this great nation. The least we can do is give 20-30 seconds of our time and show respect and appreciation for their service.

However, Emme Fields feels differently stating, “The pledge gives people the option to show their patriotism. I do think it is okay if people sit during the pledge because the United States gives people the freedom to do so.”
