TikTok on the Clock

Most of us have heard of the trending app “TikTok”. “TikTok” is becoming the new social media phenomenon used by anyone and everyone. It’s becoming more and more popular by the day, but it wasn’t always like this.  Many of us would agree that we initially downloaded the app as a joke. The videos that were created on the app started off as “cringey”. Now, it’s full of thousands of different videos based on the user’s preference. There are funny videos, sad videos, satisfying videos, and so many more.

I was curious to see how many people in our school used the app, so I did a recent survey to help kill my curiosity. Out of the 294 students that responded, over 77% said that they have “TikTok” on their phones or mobile devices. However, I was also curious to see how long people spent on the app. I was surprised to find that out of 240 people, over 35% spent 1-2 hours on the app daily. People that spent 2 or more hours on the app were right behind them with 33.8% of the 240 that answered.

I find myself and my friends quoting certain “TikTok” videos that are stuck in our head almost daily. We often quote them in class, outside of class, and any other time you can think of. I find myself quoting videos so much that I wondered if other people did it as much as I did. So of course I asked the question. Surprisingly, over 54% of the 294 people said that they quoted videos from the app daily. I honestly thought it would be a lot more, but I came to the realization that it was maybe just something that I did.

Last, but certainly not least, I did a survey on everyone’s favorite trends on the app. The most favorite trend was any “TikTok” dance. I interviewed Courtney Jackman to see what she thought of the trends and how they’ve affected her in her daily life.

“I honestly think that the app has created a bond that people who have the app can relate to. They’re almost like inside jokes. Although, it does distract and cause me to procrastinate on my homework” she said.

Overall, I’m really glad that I’m not the only one who is addicted to the app as I am. It has created so many jokes.
